Placements Hub

What are Placements?

Placements are more than just a learning opportunity—they’re a launching pad for future careers in health and social care. By working hands-on with real patients and experienced healthcare professionals, students turn theory into action, refining essential problem-solving and decision-making skills that can't be learned from a textbook. It's where classroom knowledge comes to life!

The Hub Plus Derbyshire is proud to support student placements in a variety of fields, including but not limited:

  • Adult Nursing
  • Mental Health Nursing
  • Child Nursing
  • Physician Associate
  • Paramedicine
  • Allied Health Professions (e.g., Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy)
  • Pharmacy

Partnering for Success

Our mission is to strengthen and expand the future healthcare workforce in Derbyshire. We collaborate closely with local practices, PCNs, and Universities to provide high-quality placement experiences. By bridging the gap between education and practice, we’re helping shape the skilled and compassionate professionals of tomorrow.

Incentivising Placements in General Practice

We are excited to announce our new initiative aimed at incentivising placements in General Practice. This programme offers financial incentives to practices for hosting student placements, providing a unique opportunity to enhance practice capabilities and contribute to workforce development.

Key Benefits:

Financial Incentives: Practices can receive financial rewards for hosting students.

Enhanced Capabilities: Hosting students can bring fresh perspectives and skills to your practice.

Workforce Development: Support the next generation of healthcare professionals and contribute to a skilled workforce.

How It Works:

In-demand Placement Roles: Financial incentives for Mental Health Nursing (£2,000 per placement) and Child Nursing (£1,500 per placement).

Common Placement Roles: Financial incentives for Adult Nursing and other roles (£600 per placement).

Payment Schedule: Half of the incentive available on the first day of placement, the other half on the last day.

Placement tariff

There is a placement tariff for each placement, not all being the same. This is a one-off payment to your practice (the placement provider) once the placement is completed. This payment is to acknowledge the staff time taken to supervise and assess the student.

For each type of placement, the tariff amount is set and provided by NHS England. At The Hub Plus, we are responsible for contacting HEIs and finding out the tariff for each placement type.
