Funding to support Continued Professional Development

CPD Funding is to support Nursing associates, Nurses, Midwives and AHPs in GP Practices. This investment will allow access to funding linked to personal professional requirements as well as system and population health priorities. This funding aims to support the NHS, and support building skills and expertise of our workforce vital to services and communities. 

Who can receive CPD funding?  

CPD Funding is up to £333 for Nursing and Allied Health Professional (AHP) roles to attend training, such as short courses, conferences, and university level modules. 

Within Primary Care, CPD Funding can be requested by:  

  • Advanced Practitioners  
  • Dieticians  
  • Nurse Dispensers  
  • Nurse Locums  
  • Nurse Specialists  
  • Nursing Partners  
  • Nursing Associates  
  • Occupational Therapists  
  • Paramedics  
  • Physiotherapists  
  • Podiatrists  
  • Practice Nurses

Ways to access your funding

  • You can access your funding via two routes, these are; 

The Hub Plus event 

  • To access external events, you will need to complete the funding request form
  • Your request will be reviewed for eligibility and confirmed by a member of the team.

CPD License Voucher Information 

We are fully funding a number of voucher codes for Level 6 and Level 5 courses through CPD to support eligible learners in accessing these courses.  

Voucher Usage Policy 

Voucher codes must be used within six months of issue. Learners may book a course scheduled after the expiry date (e.g., next year), but the voucher must be applied before it expires. Vouchers are only available to roles eligible for CPD funding as they are funded through the CPD budget. 

Limited Course Availability 

We have a limited number of spaces for both Level 5 and Level 6 courses. Early submission of an Expression of Interest is encouraged. 

Practice Approval Requirement 

Before applying for a voucher, learners must have approval and support from their practice and line manager. The Expression of Interest includes an electronic signature section for confirmation. 

Course Delivery, Duration & Study Requirements 

Courses are delivered via interactive blended online learning, including pre-recorded modules, written content, self-paced study, optional live tutorials, and recorded sessions. 

All Level 5 and Level 6 courses run over six months and require approximately 3–6 hours of study per week.

What qualification do I need to enter a course at level 5 or 6? 

Level 5 courses are equivalent to undergraduate diploma level. You don’t need a specific qualification to learn at this level, but you will need to be seeing patients within a medical environment. 
Level 6 courses are the equivalent to degree level and therefore any qualification below undergraduate degree level is suitable as a qualification to enter the course. You will also need to seeing patients within a medical environment.

Process for Codes 

Step 1: Discuss your line manager and confirm approval. 

Step 2: Submit the online application form: https://app.smartsheet.eu/b/form/019beb6cc1e779f6beb75c2f43964e1a 

Step 3: Application reviewed internally (1–2 weeks). 

Step 4: Receive confirmation email with personal license code. 

Step 5: Register for the course using your license code. 

Step 6: Complete the six-month course. 

Step 7: Submit feedback evaluation to The Hub.

What is the funding intended to be used for? 

The CPD funding will provide an individual development fund for frontline clinical professionals to: 

  • Equip them with new clinical skills to enhance the care they provide to patients and develop their careers.
  • Support staff in moving between sectors, for example by enabling nurses and AHPs in hospitals to move to new roles in primary care and community care, supporting improved primary care access and out of hospital care. 
  • Support the maintenance of their continuing professional registration by helping them to meet requirements from their professional regulators. 

Can the CPD funding be used for roles, i.e., secondments to rotational roles for leadership development? 

  • No, CPD funding can only be used for the development of staff in these roles and not for salaries or backfill.  

Can the money be used to pay for learning equipment like laptops/tablets?  

  • No this cannot be included as this is capital expenditure.  

Can the funding be used to pay for backfill to allow attendance at a conference?  

  • Conference fees can be claimed if they fit within the agreed allocation for personal CPD. Backfill, travel or subsistence is not included.  

Can the £333.00 be used as part payment for a more expensive course?  

  • Yes

Why are other roles not included in CPD funding?
